We believe that success is not accidental, it’s designed! For every project we strictly adhere certain processes to reach the goal.
In the first meeting with client, project requirements and site conditions are discussed. Accordingly, applicable regulations and terms are reviewed.
With the help of inputs received by the client, planning of the project begins. This would take couple of days depending upon the size and requirements of the project. At this stage concept plan is proposed along with relevant images to convey the design idea.
In continuation of phase II, further modifications are made in designs to suit the client’s requirements and taste. At this stage contractors are requested to submit their initial quotations.
After contractors are finalized and some design modifications are done to suit the budget, its now time to generate all the detailed working drawings and sanction drawings.
This is the last step where finishing materials are discussed and finalized. Site visits are arranged to inspect the progress.
At this crucial stage client’s needs and objectives are identified. Questions regarding the specific functions of the space, who will be using the space, furniture and requirements will be discussed to prepare a design brief for the next schematic design stage. Designer’s role and scope of works are finalised at this initial stage.
During this phase, space planning and furniture layouts are developed along with mood boards to help understand the overall design theme. Generally, there is always more than one possible solution, and we like to consider as many options as possible without limiting our freedom of thoughts. Preliminary furniture plan is developed with rough sketches and mood boards and then presented to the client for review and revision. During this stage, tentative budget is discussed.
At this phase we further target for finalization of design based on the budget constraints. After discussions and approvals from the client and other consultants on the project, we analyse our design in greater detail to prepare GFC drawings to carry out site works.
Once the designs are approved and signed by the client, execution drawings like furniture details, false ceiling and electrical drawings, civil changes, flooring, plumbing details are issued at site. Documentation includes finish selections such as flooring and paint, lighting plans and fixture selection, plumbing location and fixture selection and other specification details if any. To smoother this process visits to respective shops are planned along with the client for materials selection. In this, bids are obtained, contractors are selected, and purchase orders are issued.
This is the final stage in which actual on site design execution works are carried out and monitored time to time to achieve a flawless desired effect and quality of work. The designer is often onsite during any installation to ensure items are received in good condition, installed correctly, and documents have been followed and implemented accordingly.
For a successful and elaborate lighting design scheme, we recommend being commissioned for all the phases in every project. These phases include a wide range of services classified in the following order:
We like to be involved in architectural projects from the earliest moments, right from the early stages to fully consider what the concept and theme should be for our lighting design. We use this phase to properly understand the architectural intent and strategy, and then based on the inputs, we prepare our lighting design strategy.
During this phase we present different lighting effects and techniques. Generally, there is always more than one possible lighting method, and we like to consider as many options as possible without limiting our freedom of thoughts. Also, approximate cost estimates for lighting fixtures/programs are analysed at this stage.
During this phase we further target feasible options from our initial design framework for finalization. After consultation with the Client, architects, and other designers/consultants on the project, we analyse our design in greater detail to prepare detail documentation drawings for approval.
With the directions of earlier design stages, we are now in a position to finalize all the fixtures details to generate our bill of quantities. We generally provide at least 2 contacts of vendors for same or equivalent luminaries to have a fair choice for selection.
A lighting design is always completed at the construction site. Therefore, it is our duty to supervise the quality of light that materializes on site. Many a times drawings alone cannot correctly communicate our design intent and, to clarify our ideas to the builders on-site, we hold a special lighting design briefing in form of lighting mock up.
After the lighting mock experience, it is now time to select the luminaries and order it. Although it may look easier, installation of these fixtures is also a skill-full job and it requires supervision. Many a times the aiming and focusing of the luminaires needs to be done on site to achieve the desired effect.
